Jimmy Rosenberg & Friends | Jimmy Rosenberg is Back (dvd) Er is al veel in superlatieven geschreven over gipsyjazzgitarist Jimmy Rosenberg. Laten we vaststellen dat hij een verdomd goeie gitarist is. Als zijn vingers in duizelingwekkende vaart over de snaren dansen is dat een lust voor het oog en het oor. Maar bij vingervlugheid blijft het niet. Ook harmonisch, melodisch en ritmisch toont hij zich een meester. Hoe rap hij de noten ook aaneenrijgt, het blijft muzikaal met een grote emotionele rijkdom. Hot Club de Norvège | Swinging with Vertavo, Angelo & Jimmy Highlights from three previously released CDs were reissued for this single disc, all featuring the Hot Club de Norvège as the core group. The Hot Club, a quartet comprised of two guitars, bass, and a violinist who doubles on harmonica, has been one of Norway's top jazz groups since its formation in 1979. Although based in the Gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt, it does not merely re-create Reinhardt's earlier work but features many catchy originals from guitarist Jon Larsen, including the memorable "Femme Fatale." This program begins with seven numbers (four group pieces plus three brief solo guitar interludes that on a whole are known as "Jimmy's Suite") recorded in 1993 that showcase the remarkable guitarist Jimmy Rosenberg, who was just 13 at the time but already a brilliant player in the Django style. The next dozen numbers from 1995 match the Hot Club de Norvège with a flexible and swinging string quartet and guest Ulf Wakenius in top form as the guitar soloist. The final four selections have French guitarist Angel Debarre in the spotlight as the band's guest in 1991. With the Hot Club swinging away, this music (the collaboration with the string quartet is most memorable) is a constant delight. Sinti | featuring Jimmy Rosenberg Jimmy Rosenberg is an absolutely incredible guitar player. Well-steeped in the gypsy jazz tradition best known to the world through the playing of the legendary Django Reinhardt, Rosenberg plays not only to the same demanding technical level as his hero, but also with a remarkably sophisticated sense of swing, timing, humor, and style. His accomplishments are especially impressive considering that at the time of this recording Rosenberg was 14 years old. As astonishing as he is, one must be sure not to fail to mention the other terrifically talented members of Sinti: rhythm guitarist (and cousin to Jimmy) Johnny Rosenberg and bassist Rinus Steinbach. To hear why these two young men are not to be underappreciated, take, for example, the band's reading of "The Flintstones." After a laid-back trip through the melody, the rhythm team of Johnny Rosenberg and Steinbach kicks into overdrive, doubling or trebling the tempo but never losing the colossal groove that they maintain throughout the song and throughout this album. Respect being paid, there is a reason why this record is subtitled "Featuring Jimmy Rosenberg," and it is the ease with which this youngster seems to have absorbed the technical intricacies of this demanding style of playing that will likely stick with the listener most. His facility with the instrument is simply jaw-dropping, but it is made even stronger by his risk-taking improvisations and his sheer sense of style. This is an extremely auspicious debut from a group of three young musicians who seem to be having as much fun making this music as fans will likely have listening to it. The Gipsy Kids | Safari Dans la série "j'ai douze ans et les légos, c'est pas mon truc, je préfère jouer avec des Argentines", voici le premier album du phénomène aux longs doigts... Jimmy Rosenberg. A l'âge ou moi, je commençais à peine à ranger mes "Jeunes Années" avec mes disques d'Anne Sylvestre, le petit Jimmy lui écoutait Sonny Rollins, Cole Porter et Django. Et il les rejouait. Le soir, il embrassait sa guitare avant de se coucher là où d'autres étreignent un ours en peluche... Parfois même, il dormait avec. C'est sa mère qui le dit. Sorti en 1992, le disque présente les Gipsy Kids, trio formé en 1990 par Jimmy Rosenberg, Falko Reinhardt à la rythmique (neveu de Lulu et Geisela Reinhardt) et Sani van Mullen à la basse. Très inspiré du style de Stochelo, le jeune guitariste a déjà un groove saisissant, une dextérité impressionnante et une attaque monstrueuse. Au delà de l'aspect "phénoménal" du jeune virtuose et de la relative importance "historique" de l'enregistrement, le disque reste peu intéressant. D'une part le son d'ensemble a bien vieilli : beaucoup de synthés et de faux violons, des percussions envahissantes et des coeurs juvéniles rigolos mais d'un intéret musical limité. Et puis surtout, l'inspiration puise sa source plus dans le Gypsy Summer du Trio Rosenberg que dans leur très beau Seresta. Même s'il reste malgré tout de jolis moments (Flora, Blues Clair...)
